2015 UC San Diego Academy

Information about 2016 housing and dining will soon be posted. The current page only contains information about 2015 housing and dining.

Welcome to UCSD! Housing*Dining*Hospitality is excited about your participation in the Academy/SPIS and we look forward to working with you so you will have a pleasant and productive five-week stay on campus. The following information will be helpful to you as you begin to make your plans to move in for the program. If you have any additional questions about housing, please email Dr. Yvonne Hernandez Friedman at yrhernandez@ucsd.edu.

Housing Contract

Once you receive an email from our summer housing office, please fill out the contract as soon as possible. Emails will go out and contracts will be available beginning July 13th. On the contract you will be able to state your housing preference of double or triple. There are no singles available for the summer program. Housing preferences will be assigned based on availability and the order in which your contract is received. Complete your contract and send it to us as soon as possible so you can get your preferred choice.

The Academy students will also receive the following forms along with the contract, which need to be completed.

  • Confidential Health History
  • Media Authorization and Release
  • Evaluation Consent, and
  • Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnity
Please complete these forms and bring them with you when you come to UC San Diego on August 2nd, 2015.


If you have a roommate request, both people will need to email ucsdhousing@ucsd.edu. We will need confirmation from all parties before a roommate request can be honored.

Move In

You can move in on Sunday, August 2nd from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM. Move in will be at the Warren College Conference Desk. Once you sign your contract, you will receive specific information on how to get to the campus, parking for move in and other details. Along with the contract, you will receive the additional forms mentioned above. You need to fill them out, print and bring them when you move in. Please remember to bring them as there will be limited copies available on hand.

Early Move In

Early move in can only be accommodated on Friday, July 31st from Noon-4:00 PM. If you require early move in, please email ucsdhousing@ucsd.edu. If you have an international flight and require additional accommodation, you can also email ucsdhousing@ucsd.edu with your needs. Please be aware, if you check in early there will not be activities or meals provided. However, there are several options for meals on campus and you will be given that information once you email for an accommodation. Early arrivals are subject to a fee for the additional stay.

Move Out

Academy Students

Move out is on Saturday, September 5th, before 3:00 PM for the Academy students. Please check the Academy closing ceremony page for more information about the final day's schedule.

CSE SPIS Students

Move out is on Friday, September 4th, 4:00 PM for SPIS students. Please check the SPIS closing ceremony page for more information about the final day's schedule.

Extended Housing

Extended Housing is available from 9/6/2015 through 9/18/2015 at an additional cost (billed to the your student account). You will be able to remain on-campus in your assigned Warren space and move to your permanent Fall assignment on Friday, September 11, 2015. However, Extended Housing is only available to students who currently hold a housing contract for the upcoming academic year. For those with a housing contract, you will receive an email a week before September 5th about your housing accommodation for the academic year.


If you plan on parking on campus throughout the program, you will need to purchase a parking permit for $61.00 from Transportation Services. Weekends are free to park. For more information on how to obtain a permit, please visit: http://transportation.ucsd.edu/parking/permits/buy.html


There is no storage available while you are in the program. If you have a few items and it will not be an imposition on your roommates, you can bring items to your room. Please note, the rooms are not large and cannot accommodate a lot of items. If you have a lot of items, there are several private storage facilities available in the area where you can store items during the program. Research online for units in the Kearny Mesa or Mira Mesa area for facilities close to campus. Many have special rates for students.

For Academy/SPIS Mentors and Tutors

If you are an undergraduate student who is going to be a tutor or a mentor for Academy/SPIS, then you can sign up for summer housing for the 2nd session (August 2nd through September 6th 2015). The summer housing website is: http://hdh.ucsd.edu/housing/summer.asp. If you are a Academy/SPIS tutor or mentor, you will be charged the acceleRATE cost. When you apply, make sure to mention that you are an Academy/SPIS tutor or mentor to get the acceleRATE cost.
