UC San Diego
Academy for Transfer Students

The 2016 UC San Diego Academy for Transfer Students is intended for incoming transfer students who will be entering UC San Diego in the Fall quarter from a community college or from a four year college.  It is a five-week  residential program where students would earn 8 units of credit (10 units for CSE and Math-CS students) in the major. The Academy primarily consists of gateway courses that are not typically offered at community colleges. The Academy also includes advising and other activities to help students smoothly transition to UC San Diego.

The goals of the program include a strong academic foundation for incoming transfer students so that they can make rapid progress academically and graduate sooner. While the course work is intense, each student will get individual attention and help with the course material.

All students admitted to UC San Diego through one of the following five departments in 2016 are eligible to participate in the Academy. Individual program details and course prerequisites are available through the corresponding web pages.

  1. Biological Sciences (including SIO Marine Biology)
  2. Chemistry and Biochemistry
  3. Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
  4. Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)
  5. Mathematics

Fee and Financial Aid

The overall cost of the program, including tuition, fees, educational programs, housing, meals, books, and supplies, is $5,000 per student. The university wants to help jump-start your education at UC San Diego, and is providing $2,500 in support to all Academy participants. The actual cost to students and families is $2,500.

Financial aid loans and/or grants are available to assist eligible students and families in paying the cost to attend the Academy. International students are not eligible for Federal or State financial aid and therefore are expected to pay the Academy student cost of $2,500 from family resources.

If students opt not to take the housing option offered by the Academy, they might get a small discount on the $2,500 fee. The discount amount will be posted on this website in about a week.
